Irish singer-songwriter Foy Vance brought his Regarding the Joy of Nothing Tour to The Truman in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Foy began his set at a baby grand piano on stage. He played through a few songs, one of which is my personal favorite of his, “Sapling.” At the end of his first three, he just sat there for a minute talking to the audience. He joked that his recent Emmy win hadn’t changed him at all, as he pulled out a pair of sunglasses, extended his arm out as a guy from backstage brought out his actual Emmy trophy.

Vance comes from northern Ireland and told the audience a few stories from his time there. He even called it a “shite-hole” (read that with a heavy Irish accent). After playing a few more songs on the piano, Foy grabbed one of his guitars and a loop pedal and began creating his songs piece by piece. Personally I’ve always loved seeing artists do this and the last time I saw a musician use this method was probably Ed Sheeran when he opened for the Rolling Stones at Arrowhead Stadium in 2015.
This tour (Regarding the Joy of Nothing) is a tribute to his album that made him famous (Joy of Nothing). The songs he played will stir something insde of you. His unique vocal sounds will send a slight chill down your spine. You will feel something during this show.
