On October 5, 2025, Judah & the Lion delivered a profoundly moving experience at Kansas City’s Uptown Theater, captivating the audience with their heartfelt exploration of grief and healing as depicted in their latest album, The Process. The album, structured around the five stages of grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance) served as the backbone of the evening’s setlist, offering fans an intimate journey through lead singer Judah Akers’s personal experiences.
The concert opened with “Denial,” a haunting, yet energetic, piece that set the tone for the night. As the band progressed into the “Anger” phase, tracks like “Floating in the Night” resonated with raw energy, embodying the tumultuous emotions Akers faced during his divorce. The synergy between Akers and mandolinist Brian Macdonald was palpable, their harmonies and instrumentation amplifying the emotional depth of each song.
Transitioning into “Bargaining” and “Depression,” the atmosphere grew introspective. Songs such as “Why Did You Run” showcased the band’s ability to blend melancholic lyrics with evocative melodies, reflecting Akers’ journey toward self-forgiveness and understanding. The vulnerability in Akers’ voice, paired with the band’s textured sound, created an unforgettable moment of reflection within the set.
The evening culminated with the “Acceptance” phase, highlighted by the uplifting “Long Dark Night.” This track encapsulated the album’s overarching message: while healing isn’t linear, there’s hope in moving forward.
