Soundgarden came to Kansas City and did not disappoint. It was a warm Mother’s Day evening out at KC’s Starlight Theatre when Soundgarden took the stage. The audience erupted into applause at the sight of lead singer Chris Cornell.
The band opened with “Incessant Mace” followed by “Hunted Down” and “All Your Lies.” The crowd was on their feet dancing, swaying, and singing along with the band. When the band broke into their fourth song, their hit “Spoonman,” everybody was clapping, yelling and singing along.
When Soundgarden started playing, perhaps, their most famous song, “Black Hole Sun,” fans raised lighters into the air and swayed along with the tune. Members of the audience put their arms around each other and rocked back and forth throughout the entirety of the song.
The band’s lead singer, Chris Cornell, gave a great performance throughout the night, showing off his multi-octave vocal range. It did seem, however, that at times he didn’t seem quite all there in a sense. He seemed to stare out into space a bit and had a blank expression on his face a few times as well. Perhaps he was just having an off night or maybe his mind was elsewhere. Nevertheless, Soundgarden still rocked Kansas City all night.
