G3 Tour Brings Skilled Guitarists to Kansas City 2018

Joe Satriani’s G3 Tour is known for bringing some of the world’s top guitarists together on stage and the 2018 tour was no different. The 2018 G3 Tour featured guitarists Phil Collen of the British rock band Def Leppard, John Petrucci of the progressive rock group Dream Theater, and, of course Satch himself, Joe Satriani.

The tour stopped by the historic Uptown Theater venue in Kansas City, Missouri for a sold out show on Thursday, January 25, 2018. Fans were treated to performances by each of the artists, followed by a jam session at the end featuring all three guitarists together on stage at once.

Act I: Phil Collen

The first guitarist of the evening, Phil Collen, took the stage with his side project Delta Deep. Collen first started this extreme blues project back in 2012. Delta Deep features Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen, Stone Temple Pilots bass guitarist Robert DeLeo, Joe Sample/Crusaders drummer Forrest Robinson, and vocalist Debbi Blackwell-Cook who has performed with Michael Buble and Gregory Hines.

Act II: John Petrucci

The second guitarist of the evening was John Petrucci. Petrucci is most known for being a founding member of the progressive rock/metal group Dream Theater. Petrucci’s set was an intense experience filled with killer shredding on the guitar, proving that he is a legendary guitarist.

Act III: Joe Satriani

The third guitarist of the evening was Joe Satriani, the founder of the G3 concert tour. Satriani’s skill on the guitar is one that is difficult to rival. Throughout his set he entertained the audience with fast fingerwork and crazy fast tunes like his famous song “Satch Boogie.”

Act IV: G3 Jam Session

At the end of Satriani’s set, he welcomed back to the stage Collen and Petrucci as well as vocalist Debbi Blackwell-Cook. The three guitarists played together throughout the rest of the show and paired nicely with Blackwell-Cook’s bluesy vocals.
