Singer/songwriter Amos Lee stopped by the historic Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 26, 2019. Lee is currently touring the country to promote his new album “My New Moon.”

It was another fairly uneventful tuesday evening in Kansas City, with the spring weather finally making it warm outside. There was a decent sized line of people waiting to get in the venue when I arrived to pick up my media credentials. Once inside, I scouted out a good vantage point to photograph from since this was a seated show and there was no traditional photo pit for the photographers. I found the best places would be up against the walls and out of the way.
After the opening act, Ethan Gruska, the main event started. First to take the stage was the band members, followed by Amos Lee himself. The show was very mellow. Lee didn’t seem to be very energetic on stage, but that worked just fine with his music. His music has some rock qualities that are heavily influenced by soul, blues, and folk genres. Throughout Lee’s set the audience primarily stayed seated, but they sure were swaying and moving with the music.
During the first several songs, Amos Lee didn’t really seem to interact with the audience like most bands tend to do. It almost seemed as if he didn’t even care that there were people watching. He was so into his own music and was completely in the zone. It was an interesting break from the usual that I personally enjoyed.
If you haven’t been to an Amos Lee show, I highly recommend going to one. It was great music, a relaxing chill atmosphere, and an entertaining show.
